CJ Hammond, Artist

There are anywhere from two to twenty layers of colored pencil in the final work. Each piece begins with an experience, a memory, an adventure that is translated into a sketch. Once finalized, a reverse transfer process places the sketch on paper. Colors are layered and layered and layered. The layers are blended with a colorless pencil. A blending solution may be applied to create depth. Finally, each space is outlined in black, and finished with UV resistant protection. The entire process takes 20 to 45 hours depending on the complexity of the drawing.

Jim Hammond, Frame Maker

Then, the finished piece heads to my frame maker and husband. Using found, purchased, and repurposed wood, he meticulously designs and finishes the perfect frame.
